To recap, Twitter — locked the New York Post's account — locked both the Trump campaign & the White House press secretary's accounts after they shared the Post story — programmatically blocked all links to the Post piece in both tweets and DMs All reversed. But holy hell.

I have heavily criticized media coverage I believe to be irresponsible, biased or blatantly false — but I would *never* suggest social media forcibly memory-hole those stories or suspend the outlets publishing them. It wouldn't have even occurred to me. This isn't hard.

I'm not worried about the free press. Twitter isn't everything. It's not even most of the stupid-parts. So long as the story's on their site, and other news outlets were linking to it in their criticism, seems all the right things were happening. [Twitter goofed here, imo]

Just, contextually, I spend so much time thinking about China that this Twitter bullshit just doesn't register on the scale of freedom of anything. Show me someone getting tortured until they make a public apology. This behaviour is OK on KnittingWorld, so it's OK for freedom.

Incredible how short a memory institutions that preserve information and report on historical events have.
