To recap, Twitter — locked the New York Post's account — locked both the Trump campaign & the White House press secretary's accounts after they shared the Post story — programmatically blocked all links to the Post piece in both tweets and DMs All reversed. But holy hell.

"Save the free press" had enough of a run for some of you, I guess. How long did it take you to forget how "fake news" was minted? How did you develop such a strong taste for your own sacred cow?

I have heavily criticized media coverage I believe to be irresponsible, biased or blatantly false — but I would *never* suggest social media forcibly memory-hole those stories or suspend the outlets publishing them. It wouldn't have even occurred to me. This isn't hard.

Original “Hacked materials” policy is being changed, but it’s now blocked for “distributing personal info”. They shoulda just played it straight and said “high probability of being doctored/disinfo, we’re making a judgment call and we don’t care if you disagree”
-
By trying to shoehorn it into existing policies they just make it look shady and give ammo to conspiracy theorists. If they had just said, “this whole story is super sketchy, we’ve been anticipating 11th-hour disinfo dumps, we’re blocking this” it would have been better.
