The thing about the relative inflexibility of sexual orientation that matters is that it makes it *especially* cruel to punish people for it. It wasn't the only (or most important) reason to insist people be able to make partnering choices for themselves.

This was a Stephen pinker argument that I loved. If science one day shifts and shows that being gay IS a choice, that shouldn’t matter. Because we as a society respect people’s lifestyle choices and ways they want to live.
