1. What age group? 2. Willing to wager none of those claiming to support violence perceive themselves as being the one shot in the face. Claims like this are useless.

What if your country became under attack from a hostile external force who wanted you to live under a different rule of law and in nondemocratic processes? What if their idea of "violence" included forms of violence that weren't "kinetic" in nature? Should we be that specific?

To hold this line, you have to be anti-cynical to a certain extent. I think that one's perceived need for violence in society is directly correlated with their cynicism, which seems to be significantly on the rise.

I think it's the other way around. One needs to be idiotically optimistic to honestly think that violence can solve society's problems. As people become cynical, they realize this wouldn't work, and look for ways to dissipate, channel, or redirect conflicts without violence.
