If these were my kids, would I prefer them to be trapped in the backseat during a police pursuit (many of which lead to fatal crashes) or left to the whims of someone who'd already assaulted me, stolen my car and kidnapped them? Neither are tolerable.
They could have shot him one time instead of seven. Or they could have grabbed him and thrown him down. Probably didn't need to have him handcuffed to the hospital bed as he's fighting to stay alive.
The number of shots fired may have been excessive, but now that I understand better how firearms work and vary it's pretty clear to me that someone who is shot is not necessarily someone who won't continue doing what they're doing.
Police have a very tough job... would be great if they were qualified to do it. Sadly MOST are not.
