Interestingly, the people most obsessed with these ideas seem *more* likely to adopt very weak "blank slate" theories about cognitive ability, think physical attractiveness is entirely socially constructed & attribute social integration challenges to poor "character"

People with an exceptional trifecta of fluid intelligence/generativity, attractiveness & sociability — plus another really critical one, high internal motivation compatible with the particulars of their environment — will almost universally do well in the high-connectivity west.

Nobody thinking sensibly would trade places with a white male who struggles with basic cognitive tasks, isn't fit or attractive, and can't read or respond appropriately to social cues. His only real hope is to be born into a family wealthy enough to keep his head above water.

oh, and being poor, that's another one. a thought i had once was that it's easier to self-select on the basis of some kind of visible identity the more discrete that identity is. intelligence, beauty, wealth, and social skill are all very continuous, unclear where the cutoffs are

Yeah, "shallowness" is a weird concept. Whether you like me for my brain or body, I did not choose either. Not sure why one is a vice and the other a virtue.
