I used to get invited to "women in X" groups/meet-ups all the time, but I'm a solid half-decade out from my first realization that these are my personal hell

A problem with these groups, and maybe identity-based groups in general, is that a lot of assumptions seem to get made about you via a "shared experience" that you violate if you don't relate How much this relates to the 1:1 meanness so often present between women, I can't guess

Yeah... often when people decide they want to make an 'inclusive environment' it becomes a shared ideological stance (with callouts etc for deviations.) It's interesting to consider that I've never seen a disagreement in real life where the opposing camps were divided by gender.
