If you explore the comments in that quoted thread, you're likely to get confused because a very popular epidemiologist and academic has deleted her own tweets implying that masks don't work. As a result, I look like I'm having a conversation with noone.

So about that mask advice… “Median viral loads were negligible when comparing coughing samples of#COVID19 patients without a mask, with a surgical mask, and with a cloth mask, suggesting these masks were ineffective at filtering SARS-CoV-2.”
