I see a hunger for autocratic rule on both sides that I absolutely will not ever cede to. I resent being in a position that requires threading that needle, but I will thread it as best I can, and having already lost family and friends I'm not afraid of whatever else I might lose.
Sam is a friend and always will be, because I know I'll never lose his ear out of cowardice. And he knows I'll never operate against my principles, which are fundamentally compatible with his, even if we disagree on the specifics.
