If you don't understand why incentives rule everything, you can't competently theorize about anything. You're stuck in stories without the ability to even scrutinize your own allegiance to one narrative over another. It's the bare minimum for model-building and we don't teach it.

Incentives + freedom are everything. People—especially politicians—must remember that the “benefits“ of regulation are obvious, while the benefits of freedom are, by definition, unpredictable. Regulations often shift the incentives—the failure is then blamed on the free market.

Yep, and don't forget internal incentives: people face strong internal pressure to conform with their narrative of their own identity. Understanding peoples' stories is key, since it can cause them to act in ways that, on the surface, go directly against their visible incentives.

Been thinking a lot of incentives in light of the pandemic. Modern medicine Kleptocratic&Oligarchic, gave way for global infrastructure of entitled brats. Siloed, not agile not innovative. INCENTIVES are all wrong.
