It's a very reasonable interpretation! But: the former is definitely a mutt, probably the result of an accident or informal pairing, and the latter has a lengthy pedigree of dogs selected for scent work with a human handler and thoroughly genetically screened for disease

For additional context: I've had the chihuahua-mutt for about 10 years, and she still enjoys her little walkabouts whenever she can evade me, although every time she's pulled off an escape she's brought herself home
