Curiously, the implication is that the children of black immigrants do not need any assistance in the admissions process because — presumably — the wrong that begs for correction is slavery, not any kind of persisting racism.

She is unreasonable in general but this is a reasonable take tbh. Anti black racism is still one of the core political issues in the south and unc would benefit to address it through its admissions

Part of what's illiterate about her position: she appears to think slavery is a uniquely US phenomenon. Most slaves were brought to the Carribean or Brazil, so I assume lots of black immigrants from Jamaica etc are descended from slaves. Where is that in her thinking?

Not talking for Mason, but the problems I have with AA as currently practiced are 1: if the purpose is to help disadvantaged groups, it should be wealth based, not racial, (Will Smith kids need the help a lot less than some poor white kid) 1/2
