I think how dating apps work (and are made to work) similarly mugs people, since a lot of things polite society maximally does not want to believe are not just “Overwhelming evidence for this a SQL query away” but rather “This reality will, if disbelieved crush biz.”
As it turns out, these companies can sell you the product you want a lot easier than the product you *want to want.* In some sense, the ability to blame the product is a value add.

What's the difference between wanting something and wanting to want something? Aren't they just two different things that I want? Maybe it would be better to say "some of our desires are easier (or more profitable) to satisfy than others."
