I want to be clear, here: if ever your social circles or local norms demand you put your children into a subpar situation to be "fair" or "equitable," you ought to tell them to fuck right off. Make better schools/alternatives and invite everyone else to take note. Be the change.

Govt running 90% Primary/Secondary schools = Monopoly. Tough to create competitive marketplace against “free.”Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Parents though should wake the fuck up and just ignore this. I'm concerned about parents still giving an ear to this shit, even if their kids *know* that the status quo is the wrong game to be playing in and feel it almost (or very much?) physiologically

Endless times I've been mom shamed for letting "these beautiful children" ride the subway alone, to the point of my kids once being detained by police. Or subject to disdain for unorthodox schooling choices for my kids. But IDGAF, b/c my status anxieties<my children's wellbeing

I think that it's because a general sense of it not being fair for one child to be given a top notch education, while another gets a subpar education, through not fault of their own.

Because many of us realize how toxic hyperindividualistic culture can be, especially ones where the kids of wealth & privilege have a leg up on others Funny how you call this "real" interest as if other efforts to make sure all kids have equitable ed opportunities isn't real

I don't see how this is any different than the $5k I pay every year to put my daughter in a small, private Montessori school, which is run out of what used to be a residential home. There's only 60-some kids in total, and they offer scholarships to those in need
