I mean that everything is produced at considerably higher purity and consistency and distributed much more easily. Everyone understands that the weed available today is not what was around 40 years ago, but they don't grok that synthetics, Sinaloa meth, etc. are just as novel.
Most people who are addicted these days got started on prescription drugs, and adderall is straight up meth and xanax is basically heroin, so that's a more important thing to warn people about. But I'm not sure the crack in the 80s was any less dangerous.

Isn't it an agonist for some of those drugs? I think it's intentionally added.
There’s also the fact that many drugs these days may have unknowingly been cut with fetanyl, which can kill at extremely low doses. I find that terrifying.
