Tragic that for-profit companies had already created all this infrastructure for people to get some of their needs partially met during a once-in-a-century catastrophic strain on all aspects of human life

Tech companies are well studied in designing compulsion and addiction into their products. I know cause I've done it. Thanks quarantine. Good luck to some of those newly hooked once this is over.
All of those tech companies (and media) have incentive to maximize panic and overreaction. How much of our views are shaped by that?
So I think it's clear that they were in a position to provide value, but surely that doesn't distance them from being a monopoly/oligopoly status, specifically with information asymmetries? Or am I just being silly?
