It's this. It's the hypocrisy. The truth is that we're not all in this together. Not right now. If ever there were a time for an exception, perhaps this would be it. But consider how costly this is. Think about what this leaves to fossilize in the hearts of the grieving.https://twitter.com/brinkofill/status/1288977843133784066 …

I get it. My dad wasn’t important. So it’s ok to limit his funeral to 10 people tomorrow. pic.twitter.com/9MCAlNrRK4

If it was my dad, I would be upset too, but I think John Lewis is an exception. I think. I don't know. It's a tough call. Sometimes breaking the rules makes sense, sometimes not. Sigh. Now I'm not sure anymore. It did occur to me it would have been better if it were outside.

There is a strong argument that John Lewis meant so much to people that it is morally justified to accept risk to honor his memory. But does someone less famous’s father or mother mean any less to them, that we should threaten to arrest them for electing the same risk?

Yes. It's hard to think of a more justifiable exception. But the message is still: your wonderful father meant everything to his family, but that life was too small.

I’d like someone to explain why John Lewis chose to become part of the political party responsible for slavery & segregation for thirty years & all he had to show for it was a party that today focuses on the color of your skin as everything that matters. Who changed who?

That’s a flattening of history. The Democratic Party of 1860 / 1950 / 1965 are different entities. It evolved, just like the Republican Party. And to say all Democrats today care about is skin color is simply wrong. The world is more complex than just good guys vs bad guys.

No. They’re not despite how hard you try to lie to make it so. They are the same party with the same values and they’ve done nothing for 250 years to indicate that will change. Some things are nuanced. Democrat politics are not. Their lens is color & their aim is power & control.

History doesn’t work that way. It’s all about nuance and complexity. The party that enforced Jim Crow is not the same party that passed the Voting and Civil Rights Acts (1964/65). Still, you seem set in your views so discussion is probably pointless. Peace out.

Political tribes are weird. It's weird that if I know your take on immigration, I can make an effective guess at how you feel about abortion or climate change. I'm confused enough about the relevant history to question most claims about it, but the present alone is strange enough

All this is operating at hyperspeed and insane specificity now. Tell me which party you affiliate with & I can tell with fair confidence whether you think hydroxychloroquine certainly works on COVID or certainly doesn't. A drug that you've almost certainly never studied or used.

I am generally pro immigration but not pure open door. I support abortion choice but I understand seeing otherwise. I’ll trust my doctor on the right drug to use. I agree with you that BOTH sides are too tribal these days. It’s tiring.
