IMO in a sane world we would partially judge our leaders on their ability to implement a from-scratch secure login system. Maybe even just pseudo code

In very basic terms, it's information stored in your browser by a web server which is sent back to the web server when you load another page. It's essentially a way to store stateful information in HTTP, which is stateless by design.

Yea but you also have to realize ISPs have been silently been using super cookies upstream and selling your online behavior. It's messed up. Starlink would probably be only ISP that doesn't pull shenanigans.
