Their conclusion is not that protests don't spread coronavirus, but that non-protesters seem to be more likely to stay in during mass protest events. They even suggest that this may be due in part to declining mental health. The coverage on this has been godawful.

So.... are you saying that protests are good for decreasing covid spread because it keeps non-protestors inside? I'm genuinely not following the point you're trying to make and am actually curious. The original post sounded anti-protest-y

Protests appear to be on net relatively neutral for COVID spread in large part because they utterly fuck over public spaces for non-protesters, many of whom are already struggling to get out of bed. Hope that's clearer.

Oh!!! So it’s about non-protestors not being able to gather outside because of BLM protests?

you do know that the protests are in response to bigger problems than.... "I can't hangout outside in SF because people are protesting against racial inequality and police brutality?"

Going outside is actually pretty critical for people's basic functioning and mental health? People are getting those needs met by attending mass protests and then telling themselves they're better people than everyone else for it. Pretty gross, IMO.

As someone who's been very active in the protests, I don't think people are attending protests to have their outdoor needs met. We're all cramped together, in masks, being teargassed... its not like we're out leisurely enjoying the outdoors.

Of course not! That would be selfish. And you are, in fact, saving the world.

I dunno what to tell you. I'm probably a bad follow for you. My tolerance for self-righteousness in the face of multiple ongoing crises is low.
