In SF, people are still not permitted to gather in groups of >12. Even outdoors. Even with full mask & distancing compliance. Even for weddings. Even for funerals. Whatever you think of the protests, they have *got* to be wearing down the sense of solidarity required for this.

Well said. Also, the potential price of not having protests are more nebulous, and perhaps unknown. Whereas any individual can imagine — right now — what it would feel like to miss a relative or friend’s funeral.

My friend’s co-worker contracted covid at a funeral for someone that died from covid and then they also died...from covid.

This is too abstract for most. My mom died in March and not having a real funeral was a debilitating final mental blow after watching her die for a year from cancer. The universe cheated our family out of the dignified goodbye that our hearts needed. The damage is priceless.
