If at any point you repeated or boosted the "fact" that masks should not be worn to prevent the spread of coronavirus — knowing or suspecting that this was an unsupported claim to reduce demand for PPE — you have no business shaping or promoting mask policy/messaging now.
We've had no reckoning, and that's why so few will listen as we teeter at the cusp of a severe second wave. Pretty much everyone who lied kept their cushy jobs, as the rest watched their futures dissolve into uncertainty. And you have the gall to tell us what a good citizen is.
Not long ago I was hashing this out with an epidemiologist on twitter with 3x my following, who *strongly* implied that wearing a mask could INCREASE(!) risk of contracting COVID. Her own sources didn't support this. This absolute sham of a discussion will stick with me for life.

"mask truther" changed meanings faster than "fake news"
This is bad for two reasons: 1. People learn from mistakes (being charitable here, I know) 2. Even people who knew they were lying might be able to convince others who wouldn't otherwise wear a mask, and that's sorely needed right now
It's really insane. That lie should be career ending.
It is entirely consistent. We went from “nobody else is wearing a mask, what makes you so special?” to “everyone else is wearing a mask, what makes you so special?”
Today we understand better that it’s more important for medics to have them as they were in touch with infected people 100% of the time while not everyone in the general population was. If someone was lying through their teeth understanding this and trying to protect the first 1/
.. line of defense I would not judge them too harshly. I would like however for them to come clean if that’s the case. Tell us what was going on so that it was necessary. Were people/agencies stealing shipments? Were employees stealing stock to take home? Tell us.
