I feel much less threatened when I get ratio'd by conservative people than when I do by progressives. I blocked almost nobody this last ratio, whereas time before that I blocked everyone. I'm not totally sure why; I think I imagine right-leaning people have less power to hurt me?

To the extent that I worry a mob someday renders me unemployable, turns my neighbors against me, gets the shelter to seize my dog, demands my parents disown me — I'm only really seriously concerned about the left. To all appearances, they're genuinely trying to coerce suicides.

yeah... i'm trying to imagine the right doing this, like the communities I grew up around in Idaho, and I legitimately don't think they ever would have, even though they would be annoying in other ways.

A lot of right-wing communities would shun you until you reformed every visible aspect of your life, but like... shunning would be a welcome escape from the perspective of someone caught in the worst sort of left-wing slash-and-burn, nowhere-to-hide character assassination

Is one of the differences that "hate the sin, not the sinner," as a very, very imperfectly lived up to ethos, still functions in important ways re: the position of the sinner?

I think the more critical distinction is that *wanting* the sinner to be saved is paramount. It would be considered heretical and evil to hope that Jesus would fail in his attempt to reach any person, however bad they were

This doesn't preclude hoping someone's life becomes so godawful that they have no choice but to turn to religion. It's still a frame that leaves plenty of room for cruelty. But at the end of the day, you're just not permitted to want permanent, unavoidable annihilation.
