I feel much less threatened when I get ratio'd by conservative people than when I do by progressives. I blocked almost nobody this last ratio, whereas time before that I blocked everyone. I'm not totally sure why; I think I imagine right-leaning people have less power to hurt me?

A general rule of communities that shun is that there's at least some protocol for returning you to the fold. With this stuff... it's like the goal is to ensure there is no imaginable future for you anywhere on the planet

Is one of the differences that "hate the sin, not the sinner," as a very, very imperfectly lived up to ethos, still functions in important ways re: the position of the sinner?

I think the more critical distinction is that *wanting* the sinner to be saved is paramount. It would be considered heretical and evil to hope that Jesus would fail in his attempt to reach any person, however bad they were

There is and has been plenty of character assassination on the right too, but you’re much more likely to encounter it at churches, private schools, rural areas, conservative colleges, and on Facebook than in SV, tech circles, higher ed, and Twitter.
