There's just these moments where you want to shake the world and yell, "how do you not see you're just picking the opposite of what Donnie says and saying that's the truth?!?!" But then you realize that's just as naive as what they are doing, and go back to being dead-eyed.

It's an excellent case study in the corruption of science journalism, unfortunately. I wrote about it here a month ago and should probably revisit it:https://www.city-journal.org/hydroxychloroquine-covid-19-treatment …

It's insane that we still haven't produced any reliable information on this. My best guess is that it's only somewhat effective – which makes it easy to bias either way.

Correct. It addresses one of at least 3 known viral routes of entry in vivo. That one just happens to be the most important in Vero cells. It works decently in patients receiving it early in conjunction with other antivirals. It does not work late. It works less well alone.

Politicizing daily life reuins life daily. American intellectuals are too intelligent to see that.

If you want to know whether a thing is true or not, you better hope that thing doesn't get pulled into USA national politics. It's like a black hole for knowledge.

Thread on hydroxychloroquine, some studies, and the media. TL;DR 1. It's safe for ppl to take regularly (95% confidence) 2. Helps slow viral replication if taken early (80%) 3. Unclear if helps when hospitalized 4. It's not "controversial", Trump ishttps://twitter.com/yashkaf/status/1267150556642099201?s=19 …

This study doesn't say how they chose which patients to give HCQ to. Previous studies that showed HCQ+Azi increases mortality gave it to more sick people and didn't perfectly control for it. Anyway, once you're in the hospital probs just do what the hospital tells you.
