"Pretty wild that we transitioned to 'broadcast whatever is top of mind with zero friction' and 'any opinion that reflects values not held by the most radical 10% will ruin your career' at the same time." — a friend who wishes to remain anonymous

That sounds an awful lot like a reinvention of the gatekeeper/editorial/broadcast system we used to have, right?
-
Yeah, and it's a role traditional media could be filling if they weren't simultaneously going haywire. The media is increasingly cut out by their own sources not because those sources have better options, but because they're acting on the same incentives the mob is acting on.

Maybe that is good? You're saying you didn't say it, a friend did, but Twitter users can't verify that. So we are forced to evaluate the claim on its merits, not who said it.
-
Since you know who publicized it, and you know something about the opinions ("filters") of that person, if you disagree with their opinion, you can continue to ignore what is being said. Same as with "an anonymous person said to [newspaper/TV/radio channel] that X".

This is how you know you're on the wrong side. If someone has to be anonymous to say something brave. Paul you're getting close.

I predict we will see a revival of the clandestine cell system (if it hasn't happened already). Not even for political manipulation or false-flag ops like I originally thought, but just for people to discuss their opinions.
