If you look for it, you'll notice that "it's good that the backwards elderly are dying" has actually been a common political trope for a long time, and a lot of people who should have known better (including me, in the distant past) have accommodated or even encouraged it.

It dehumanizes the elderly by refusing to treat them as individuals. Separately, it insults the pursuit of progress by peaceful persuasion: the foundation of civil society. But worst and most obviously, it resolves that the just punishment for sufficiently bad ideas is death.

I do regret buying his books. I was young and naive and I wanted to understand economic crises. I wish I knew Taleb at the time.
