I really can't get over how many individuals and institutions are happy to be explicitly and publicly racist when any permutation of that old monster finds a political or cultural foothold. We're the same creatures of the past millennium and history is apparently well from over.

Some of the most shocking photos of Nazis are those showing Auschwitz guards with their families on the weekend. It's easy to say Nazis are bad. It's much harder to realize that social pressure would make nearly anyone alive now a Nazi, had they lived in Germany at that time.
