Homebrewing OSR rules is better anyway. I don't know why everyone sits around and waits for official rules/modules to come out.

Good for its own sake. Story worlds are always improved by adding nuance

Making Orcs and Drow not evil will make a lot of teenage boys uninterested in playing Orc or Drow characters.

Hmm, I always disliked the D&D alignment system and the way it had basically evil races. At the same time I feel like Switch from the Matrix saying "Not like this..." Changing this due to a moral panic and covering their ass is way more lame than seeing it as bad storytelling...

Do your own worldbuilding. Imagine what happens in: - "cursed paradise", population limited by diseases, not lack of food; - expensive-labor Malthusian; - cheap-labor Malthusian conditions. Then say "the orcs are adapted to an environment like that, of course they are that way".

This is much more troubling tbh. Like "these creatures are Evil alignment, it's inherently good to kill them" was unrealistic, metaphysical fantasy, but now it's like "hey mercilessly kill a bunch of these Real Sapient Beings of Regular Moral Worth". They've dug the hole deeper.

The irony is that this invocation of individuality and personal action is 1-2 anti-racism waves back from the shoreline. If they were doing woke proper they’d double down on Orc identity and accuse centuries of Elven oppression for Gruumshish racialism.
