We live in a country where drunk drivers kill >10,000 people/year. Whether you think people who play dice with others' lives this way should be jailed, diverted to treatment or just relieved of their licenses, "do nothing because they might resist arrest" is fucking insane https://twitter.com/WesleyLowery/status/1272651455518912512 …

So shooting him was the appropriate response? If there were people without guns to handle this he would not be dead. Police tend to default to deadly force with little thought and with the knowledge that they won't face repercussions

Generally agree. There are risks to either approach, & comparing counterfactuals without data is tough esp. w/ less quantifiable costs such as "less trust b/w LEOs & the community" & "chief resigns." Extrapolating your point to when LEOs are applying lethal force case-by-case...

It doesn't make any sense to "extrapolate" anything from a routine arrest to use of lethal force, and it invites a lot of pointless and stupid arguments about who "deserves" to die. It's exactly these kinds of strained associations that warp the conversation beyond repair.

I'd bet that at a certain blood alcohol level youre coherent enough to know that if you had just gotten a hefty ticket and had your license temporarily revoked — that 99% of people would go home very aware of how bad they fucked up. So maybe there is a BA level that can be ID'd.
