I often say "you are what you do," but you're actually the *interpreter* of what you do. You're both the reader and the stand-in character of a story told by your choices & actions. This can make you incredibly vulnerable to people who control your social or physical environment.
the solution to such coercion is preempting it. when supporting anything, in the same breath draw the line to what you would not be willing to support. be analytical and detailed, such that you can consistently explain your actions without resorting to a foreign ideology.
What if a some of how kids learn is also performative morality in this way, which actually is a form of learning? For me not all my beliefs feel innate, many are shaped by social interaction. Sometimes I try ideas on for size (and avoid expressing deep belief until they stick).
