I obviously can't and wouldn't tell you or anyone else to do, but I was stunned to find last year when I reported my stalker that the criminal side of the process was easy, warm and compassionate, and the civil side (pursuing a restraining order) was a months-long nightmare

Why is the immediately suggested solution to every modern political problem so low resolution? Always either “get rid of this thing completely” or “this thing is so important it should be 100% government funded”. Never any real solutions or thinking.

Immature utopianism, political thought that has been coddled and never had to stand up to scrutiny. I'm glad the NYT allows pieces like this, although it could be said that "they LITERALLY put people in danger" lol.

I’m just glad I have somewhere to point when my colleagues argue that nobody wants to ACTUALLY get rid of police.
