A lot of "Karens" strike me as cognitively disorganized and quite likely mentally ill (and/or in crisis). I don't think this "destroy them!" mentality will be something we're going to feel very good about, ultimately.

In case it's not obvious, I'm not writing off their behavior. I just think it's easy to forget that mental illness, physical neurological damage, nasty attitudes, traumatic experiences, impulsive and/or reckless personalities & genuine bigotry can all coexist in any combination.

A person can do chronic and/or extreme harm to another person and simultaneously be extremely vulnerable themselves. "Ruin their lives, take everything they love" is obviously not the way we, as a society, respond to every kind of terrible behavior.

Not to mention that over decades of life, the older generations that had stigmatized mental illness have likely let those issues marinate into quite a nasty stew. We are lucky now that we are beginning to tackle these issues earlier that will make a difference over 20 yrs

Eventually people will have to contend with the fact that much of the political correctness stuff ends up really only helping people with high social and verbal acuity, while further disadvantaging people who don't speak a certain dialect of upper-class professional English.
