Maybe police were the real problem and CHAZ will show us how harmonious they can be without police. It's a fascinating possibility. This feels contrived, though, and strong chance it doesn't last.
"Police" is multiple things at once. Removing "the police" doesn't change the need or inevitability of "police" the concept. Unless there is an alternative, people will form their own grassroots "police" to protect/enforce, with a very real possibility of being far more brutal.
The seamless slide from, we’re taking away a police precinct to, basically annexing part of Seattle and almost declaring sovereignty, betrays the underlying desires of a lot of people hiding in the movement. The CHAZ is an extremely naive, childish, anarchistic fantasy.
Which can only exist as a parasitic organism on a city. If they tried to create their own enclave in the middle of a forest they'd probably already be collapsing.
