Like "abolish" and "defund," the symbolic use of "shut down" tells you what's permitted to sit on the societal chopping block. You can plug in anything, and see how it feels. Shut down ______. The rationality is very important, even if political candidates/activists aren't rational. Don't amplify the false statements and the destructive suggestions. Do amplify the true and helpful suggestions
