It's an oversimplification, but IMO it really matters whether your opponents think you're stupid or evil. Stupid, and they'll try to hurt your feelings. Evil, and they'll ruin your life Overall, Trump voters think Biden voters are stupid. Biden voters think Trump voters are evil
and yes, I do think most people should worry less about political enlightment and the higher goal of becoming completely nonreactive to political opponents and instead focus on just seeing the people who disagree with them as stupid and probably not evil
Or, you could consider the possibility they aren't stupid or evil, but think differently than you do. It is possible for people to simply be wrong without being either evil or stupid. It's even possible to be wrong yourself. 
people say stuff like this approximately 30 seconds before they list the one person in politics they are absolutely certain is evil and their cadre of willing minions not saying it's not a good ideal, but more than anything it's a cheap "I'm a smart and reasonable person" signal
