and yes, I do think most people should worry less about political enlightment and the higher goal of becoming completely nonreactive to political opponents and instead focus on just seeing the people who disagree with them as stupid and probably not evil

During the current BLM protests, I've frequently read reactions from the Left (Biden) that starkly view Trump voters as evil. Moreso, even as a Biden supporter, I've received "fuck off" when attempting to find any nuance in the current strife.
Hopefully education and breaking down cultural ignorance/indoctrination can also have a positive effect in these circumstances. In most cases, people have what they see as logical reasons for what they believe.
I'd be happier if we moved toward assuming those with whom we have a disagreement about policy were smart and had really good points and everything is just hard. I think it works pretty well even if you're the only one you can convince to adopt this mindset.
