You're not solving for the equilibrium! No police means nothing to stop you from hiring an assassin.

tbc I'm not actually sure the resulting equilibrium of privately produced assassination threats, insurance agencies guaranteeing investigation and retaliation after your death, etc, is actually worse than the present equilibrium.

Ideally the police are abolished in order to restructure the justice system from the ground up, as opposed to pouring time and resources to try and fix a broken system from the inside. At least that's what I hope the abolitionists want
-
Many of them really only want (logical and justified) police reforms but call it "abolition" for woke cred

This carries the implication that a force resembling our current police system is both effective at preventing violent crime, and the *only possible* effective way to prevent violent crime.

Which police? Something I discovered when I moved to the US is that you don't have "the police" like we do in Australia. You've got thousands of different "police", with each city's a little different, and with no overarching organisation being accountable for all. Felt odd!

@shieldfoss made a great point once that once police are abolished, what's to stop you from killing people you think ought to be policed? This has a variety of implications and I think about it frequently. -
The job of the police is to protect criminals. Without police, most criminals' life expectancy gets drastically shorter.

Without police, there will be more direct ways of dealing said man. No orders needed. If you look at the statistics, the "stronger" the police force is (military gear, less community policing etc.), the higher the crime rate. This is not only correlation, but causal.
