This is most of YA and middle grade? And basically all of shounen manga/anime? Untapped???https://twitter.com/webdevMason/status/1261516666959048704 …

Lol you said it was largely untapped since Harry Potter. Nearly all Fantasy/sci fi since Harry Potter has been exactly this thanks to JK Rowling's success. It isn't a niche subgenre, it is the entire foundation for YA scifi/fantasy genre. Not even counting all of shounen stories

Ugh. Have fun with the what-aboutism. There's plenty of room for that.

so it’s either completely untapped or tapped-out? Why is it one extreme or the other with you? You said it was untapped, Sara’s point was that wasn’t the case. Which is very true.

I believe the point Sara is making is that the vast majority of YA lit (which is the best selling genre of books) is heavily inspired by the major themes of HP. Obviously they aren’t exactly the same. And obviously the market isn’t drying up for them anytime soon.

But calling it an “untapped genre” is a bit of a stretch when it’s a major inspiration for at least 2/3s of all YA books being released.
