Have you tried any clicker training for grooming stuff? It has worked super well for me and my animals.

My life hack for this is to find an abandoned parking lot and let my dog run free, the concrete naturally trims their nails. Pre lockdown I would take him for runs 3-5 times a week. Nail trimming becomes no more than monthly.
