I think the first signal I got that he was kinda egomanic was when Tesla cancelled Stewart Alsop's car purchase after he wrote critically about a launch event. But yeah it boils down to -- there are Elon stans and haters, but in between the two frames of mind there is ambiguity.
So true. If he were a character in a book, his behavior would be entirely in character. One has to be naive about human nature to expect him to do what he does in industry after industry AND to behave like a run-of-the-mill CEO.
