People think I undermine concerns about the virus because I'm also deeply concerned about everyone's ability to work. It's only that I know, viscerally, what happens to some human beings whose work is taken from them and whose only skills are regulated into the void

People keep on truckin' for as long as they can, but a massive % of the population has been skating on thin ice for as long as they can remember. The US government has already botched much of its first "stimulus," and it can't and won't do many more of these.

The pandemic seems to prove out a need for UBI. Today jobs are gutted due to shelter in place. Soon more jobs will be automated away. People will need to find meaning another way when their skills are no longer “valuable” and it will be a really tough transition.
