this is the use of occam's razor in the context of science; we can entertain the very complex idea but if we do we also need to explain the complexity aliens would be an unprecedentedly complex explanation with many many 'whys'.

that's all good, it just shouldn't warp your perspective on all other possible explanations of varying weirdness; the space between "aliens" and "probably a weather balloon" is vast

feeling fairly confident that it's not aliens is just being prudent, not close minded no one has any idea what's being recorded; why should this one particular explanation be privileged over literally any other?

I didn't say it was aliens, and that's sort of my point the introduction of aliens into the mix immediately fucks up anyone's ability to offer weird ideas to explain **even a profoundly weird observation**, because now everyone needs to distance themselves from "the crazies"
