The truly insane thing is they haven't planned when they'll end the lockdown Surely you'd decide at the start what signs you'll wait for to end it ("when daily cases are 0.00001%" or something) Not just in SF, they've not done it in the UK either I don't understand this failure

Metrics, that's the word You need do hit some metric(s) before you end the lockdown Does the government in country A lockdown just because country B did, and they don't have any other ideas?

The gameplan is simple. Let other cities/states figure out what should be done and then copy them. In the meanwhile, London Breed will raise taxes and pass a couple of more zoning laws.

Yes. The goal should be to get to a point where we can ban large gatherings, mandate mask wearing, and perform heavy testing and contact-tracing for targeted quarantines. Full lockdown should only be a stopgap until we ramp up tracing infra and get our cases under control.
