I don't claim to be an expert on this, but I'm told that it's the norm for these colleges & universities to have almost unfathomably large liabilities that are absolutely iron-tight. They can't pivot to being lighter weight outfits even if it's the only move that makes any sense

Maybe someone needs to sit down with these admins and explain that if your primary goal is to maintain an outrageously large estate with which to lavish wealth on people you've promised lifelong employment, that's... something... but it's not really what people think a school is
