Much as I hate to take advantage of the city, the long-run average hotel room is something like $150-$200/night in SF. Very awkward. Just because they're getting paid $55/night now doesn't mean they don't have upstream mortgages/costs/big city unions assuming $200.

And in practice, there's a distinct difference between a desperate person signing one-day contracts in the off-season and that same person signing months-long official contracts with the city, and setting precedents for future contract extensions, etc, etc, etc.
