Those are all social media. This really doesn't seem to be a big issue with infrastructure-oriented tech, e.g. Amazon/AWS, payment processors

Yes absolutely - and while a team of devs could easily slap together a reddit or twitter clone and host and scale it on something like Epik (ICANN accredited and "dangerous idea" friendly), payments networks and financial institutions are another thing entirely to replicate.
