The US needs a more efficient and accessible healthcare system, but it's still really, really important to limit the organ damage you're sustaining, whether it be from smoking, drinking, layering on too much fat or being subject to severe infections

Generally good ideas but you’re not getting rid of handshakes. No need to either if you’re also promoting good hygiene. I probably wash my hands 25 times a day and have since I was a kid. Just a habit I developed many years ago.
-
I cannot imagine that the typical person is more likely to start washing their hands hourly than to stop shaking hands

I agree with the second part, and always have. Blithely inserting oneself into a crowd while clearly sick is insufferable. Hesitant to co-sign the first part: viral hygiene is important, but I’m slow to reorganize human sociability around it’s hyper-diligent Maintainence.

Shaking hands was always needlessly intrusive. This is maybe more obvious when you're a woman. It's strange to be obligated to touch people you've only just met.

Hugging, kissing, hand-holding etc. all seem pretty important. But we usually do those with people we haven't only just met. Norms involving touch at first meeting just aren't that critical. Even "huggy" people understand that they may be declined if they approach someone new

Yeah, I take this sort of stuff as a flavor of neofreudianism. Fun to speculate about, probably not that useful. Often used to prop up one's own norms or deride someone else's. Handshaking isn't the glue holding society together.

-
You can take it how you’d like, doesn’t change the fact that a very large number of people consider it normal. > Handshaking isn't the glue holding society together. Nobody claimed it was? Anyway happy to leave it there. I have nothing else to add.

I want to see a startup totally dedicated to anti-viral and anti-microbial systems for everything people touch. Copper infusions for hand rails. Physical buttons w/UV light shining on them. Holographic light systems. Simple, cheap hand free doors.
-
Copper hand rails and door knobs would be great!
