Totally agree. The notion that people would believe "masks don't work; also, we must save them for health care workers" is ludicrous. It speaks to the stupidity of WHO and CDC that they imagined that could be effective.
What is the major empirical evidence that they work effectively outside of healthcare settings? Almost all mask studies done on the non healthcare professionals have not shown any conclusive benefit.
