There are 0 studies that I know of, of public use of cloth, there are filtration experiments, but only one RCT I know of from 2011 in hospitals. There is good anecdotal and historical data, but what “we know” isn’t as clear, I think.
I think your confusion here is that you were quoted in this by someone who was claiming that masks increase your risk of contracting disease.

Gotcha, I read her as much more measured than you have. She noted possible risks, framed as a practitioner with relevant experience, and used terms like “might” cause. So I agree with her too!

Well, you must be reading her much more generously than I am. But I know what my grandma would believe having read that malarkey, and I'm not prone to making bets with blood that way.
