User error in literally all of this — the gearing up, the hand-washing, the 6-foot gap, all of it. Masks were always going to be much more effective if everyone wore them, placing two barriers between infected and uninfected. Instead, noone does. *That* is stupid.
tbh, anyone who tells you people are doomed to touch their faces more while wearing a mask has either never worn one themselves or thinks you haven't. The degree of awareness you have about the risk is, IME, dramatically increased when you're no longer pretending all is well.

User error is a big issue here though. We tried to implement mask use in high risk groups on farms & I'm reporting what we saw there, which also jibes with what I see going out in public over the last 2 months: sitting masks down on tables then re-doffing, touching them, etc.

People may do that, but they also rub and scratch at themselves constantly *without* masks, often directly *into* their orrifaces. I started wearing nitrile gloves (sans mask) in Feb, then mask + gloves, & the main problem has been not constantly poking my face when they're *off*
